BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS

Blessing of the Animals is a ceremony that celebrates the bond between humans and their pets, and the relationship between humans and all of creation. It typically involves a prayer or dedication, a verbal blessing, and anointing each animal with holy oil.

Blessing of the Animals is often celebrated in the month of October, as October 4th is the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, who was known for his love of animals. Many people bring their pets to church on this day to be blessed. Some people also bring photographs of their pets or have their pets blessed by naming them. Children are also encouraged to bring their favorite stuffed animal for a blessing as well.

Each year, in Celebration of The Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, St. Paul's Episcopal Chruch holds its Blessing of the Animals Event on a Saturday in October. The service is held at St. Paul's where pets of all shapes, sizes, species and faiths are welcome!!!  Treats for the pets and refreshments for the humans are provided during the event. The 2024 event will see the addition of door prize giveways!! Those in attendance will be asked to drop their name in the hat for a chance to win!!
